House Resolution 774

A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Anthony M. Lanier II; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Anthony M. Lanier II has distinguished himself as an exemplary professional football player, philanthropist, and advocate for youth and community development; and

WHEREAS, a graduate of Alabama A&M University, Anthony M. Lanier II began his professional football career in 2016 when he was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Washington Redskins; and

WHEREAS, throughout his career, he played as a defensive end for several National Football League teams, including the Washington Redskins, Los Angeles Chargers, Kansas City Chiefs, and New Orleans Saints, before transitioning to the Canadian Football League (CFL); and

WHEREAS, he signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders on March 2, 2021, continuing to demonstrate his exceptional athletic ability, earning recognition as a CFL Top Performer of the Week, and being named to the CFL All-Pro Team for Defense in 2022; and

WHEREAS, beyond his accomplishments on the field, he has served as a dedicated leader in his community through the Anthony M. Lanier II Foundation Inc., which hosts summer youth football camps and supports community-based initiatives to promote education, good health, character development, and social skills among young people; and

WHEREAS, his unwavering commitment to empowering youth and giving back to his hometown of Savannah, Georgia, has earned him recognition as a Hometown Hero by WTOC News, Weather, and Sports; and

WHEREAS, in honor of his achievements and service, July 1 was officially declared "Anthony M. Lanier II Day" in Savannah, Georgia, by former Mayor Eddie DeLoach, and he was further honored by receiving the Key to the City from Mayor Van Johnson III; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkable individual be appropriately honored during this special time.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend Anthony M. Lanier II for his outstanding achievements in professional football and his dedicated efforts to uplift and support his community as well as extend best wishes for continued success. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Anthony M. Lanier II.
