A RESOLUTION
Commending Sergeant Trey Nelson, recipient of the 2024 Officer of the Year award; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, Sergeant Trey Nelson of the Dunwoody Police Department was recently named the 2024 Officer of the Year by the Governor's Office of Highway Safety and the Metro Atlanta Traffic Enforcement Network in recognition of his outstanding work combating distracted and drunk driving; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Nelson has served with the Dunwoody Police Department since 2010, beginning his career in the patrol division and later serving as the department's community outreach officer and public information officer before being promoted to the traffic division as a sergeant; and
WHEREAS, in his current role, he plays a key leadership role in reducing distracted and impaired driving through educational campaigns, targeted enforcement events, and collaboration with external agencies; and
WHEREAS, his proactive work includes school zone speed enforcement, distracted driving checks, and educating young drivers on the dangers of cell phone use while driving; and
WHEREAS, as additional testament to his dedication to his fellow citizens, Sergeant Nelson received a medal for meritorious service in 2024 from the Dunwoody City Council for reviving a choking toddler using a LifeVac suction device; and
WHEREAS, this spirited law enforcement professional has exhibited extraordinary devotion to duty, outstanding loyalty, fine leadership, and meticulous attention to detail in all of his duties; and
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that gratitude is expressed for the unique and often unheralded contributions of local law enforcement professionals on behalf of the citizens of this state.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the care, courage, sympathy, and selfless dedication exhibited by Sergeant Trey Nelson, recipient of the 2024 Officer of the Year award, and express their utmost appreciation for having so purely and truly defined for others the meaning of public servant.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Sergeant Trey Nelson.
