A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the centennial anniversary of the John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville, Georgia; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, in 1923, John F. Archbold purchased a 5.81-acre parcel on Gordon Avenue for the construction of a new hospital for Thomasville and Thomas County; and
WHEREAS, in 1923, a Board of Trustees was formed, a charter of incorporation was obtained, and a hospital director was selected; and
WHEREAS, the John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital was dedicated on June 30, 1925, and accepted its first patient in transfer from the City Hospital on July 3, 1925; and
WHEREAS, the John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital has steadfastly maintained its status as a leading medical facility in Southwest Georgia, offering cancer, surgical, heart, imaging, maternity, and primary care; and
WHEREAS, the John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital has maintained a position at the forefront of medical research and investigation on a level that vastly supersedes the expectations for a community hospital; and
WHEREAS, the John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital has grown from a facility that trained interns in the 1920s to an institution that trains nursing students, medical students, allied health students, and resident physicians; and
WHEREAS, the John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital has remained true to its mission to provide safe, innovative, and compassionate care for its communities and the surrounding region, with a vision to promote a healthier region, stronger communities, meaningful work, and trusted care; and
WHEREAS, the John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital is the anchor of a healthcare system that serves 15 counties in Southwest Georgia.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize the centennial anniversary of the John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville, Georgia, and extend their sincere congratulations to its leadership, physicians, nurses, pharmacists, technologists, therapists, and all other administrative and support personnel who have contributed to the healthcare and well-being of the people of Thomasville, Thomas County, and the surrounding areas of Southwest Georgia and North Florida.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital.
