A RESOLUTION

Congratulating the Savannah State University men's basketball team for winning the 2025 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Basketball Tournament Championship; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Savannah State University men's basketball team has proudly captured the 2025 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Basketball Tournament Championship, securing a thrilling 67-66 victory over Tuskegee University in the championship game on Saturday, March 8, 2025; and

WHEREAS, this remarkable achievement marks the second SIAC Championship in just four years, following their 2022 title, showcasing the team's continued excellence and resilience; and

WHEREAS, Interim Head Coach Clevan Thompson, who took the helm in early January, has guided the Tigers to an impressive 13-5 record, including a current eight-game winning streak, demonstrating his leadership and strategic prowess; and

WHEREAS, junior guard and Savannah native Javonte Landy, along with senior guard Ayjay Plain, were honored with All-Tournament Team selections for their outstanding performances while senior guard/forward Qua King was named the Tournament's Most Valuable Player, further exemplifying the team's individual and collective talent; and

WHEREAS, the Savannah State University men's basketball team represented the SIAC in the 2025 NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Tournament as the No. 8 seed in the South Region, continuing their pursuit of excellence on the national stage.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body congratulate the Savannah State University men's basketball team upon winning the 2025 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Basketball Tournament Championship and extend best wishes for their continued success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the Savannah State University men's basketball team.
