A RESOLUTION

Recognizing Mr. Donald Lyn Seabolt and dedicating an intersection in his honor; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. Donald Lyn Seabolt has devoted his life to protecting the safety and well-being of the citizens of Dahlonega and Lumpkin County and his decades of leadership and service continue to benefit the community; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Seabolt began his distinguished career of public service in 1968 as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with the 25th Infantry Division of the United States Army, where he gained the training and discipline that shaped his lifelong commitment to emergency services; and

WHEREAS, in 1972, he became the volunteer fire chief of Lumpkin County and went on to achieve historic milestones, including becoming the county's first paramedic during a time when emergency calls were still managed through local funeral homes; and

WHEREAS, he served as civil defense director and director of the Dahlonega-Lumpkin County Emergency Management Agency; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Seabolt designed and implemented Lumpkin County's emergency 9-1-1 system, ensuring that emergency assistance could be accessed quickly and reliably through a modern communications framework; and

WHEREAS, his leadership and expertise extended state wide through training emergency management professionals, serving as president of the Emergency Management Association of Georgia, earning his emergency management masters certification, and serving on the State 9-1-1 Advisory Board; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Seabolt's more than five decades of service established a lasting foundation of public safety and community resilience and it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized by dedicating an intersection in his honor.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND ENACTED BY THE GENERAL

ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA that the intersection of State Route 9/Highway 19 and Pinetree Way in Lumpkin County is dedicated as the Donald Seabolt Intersection. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation is authorized and directed to erect and maintain appropriate signs dedicating the Donald Seabolt Intersection. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to Mr. Donald Lyn Seabolt and to the Department of Transportation.
