26 LC 39 5132S Senate Resolution 624 By: Senators Setzler of the 37th, Kirkpatrick of the 32nd, Howard of the 35th, Rhett of the 33rd and Albers of the 56th ADOPTED A RESOLUTION Dedicating certain portions of the state highway system; and for other purposes.1 PART I2 WHEREAS, Officer Drew Haynes Brown was highly regarded by the c itizens of his3 community and state and by local government officials as a person of unquestioned integrity4 and dedication to the sound principles of law enforcement; and5 WHEREAS, Officer Brown diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his6 time, talents, and energy toward the betterment of his communit y and state as evidenced7 dramatically by his superlative service as a police officer in Cobb County; and8 WHEREAS, a native of Thomaston, Georgia, and graduate of Osborne High School in Cobb9 County, Officer Brown was the son of Mary Christine Vaughan Brown and Elmore "Buddy"10 Haynes Brown, who was a detective with the Cobb County Police Department in the 1970s;11 and12 WHEREAS, after attending Kennesaw College to study business law, Officer Brown began13 his service with the Cobb County Police Department on September 2, 1977, and served as14 S. R. 624 - 1 - 26 LC 39 5132S a uniform patrol officer at Precinct 2 in Mableton before joini ng the then newly created15 Marietta-Cobb DUI Task Force in 1982; and16 WHEREAS, his life was tragically cut short in 1983 after his pa trol vehicle was struck by17 a drunk driver while he was operating radar on Highway 41; and18 WHEREAS, Officer Brown led an exceptional career of public serv ice and his inspiring19 commitment to the welfare of others stands as a shining example of the positive effect law20 enforcement professionals have on the lives and well-being of others; and21 WHEREAS, he exhibited extraordinary devotion to public service, outstanding loyalty, fine22 leadership, and meticulous attention to detail in all of his duties and it is abundantly fitting23 and proper that this remarkable and distinguished Georgian be recognized appropriately by24 dedicating an intersection in his memory.25 PART II26 WHEREAS, Sheriff Randall Johnson ably served and protected the citizens of this state as27 Fayette County Sheriff with an exceptional career in law enforcement that spanned nearly 4928 years; and29 WHEREAS, born in Fayette County on October 13, 1940, and a graduate of Fayette County30 High School, Sheriff Johnson began his law enforcement career in 1959, when he was sworn31 in as a Fayette County Deputy Sheriff; and32 WHEREAS, in 1961, he went to work for the State of Georgia work ing at the Capitol in33 Atlanta, before joining the Georgia Department of Revenue's Div ision of Alcohol and34 Tobacco as a special agent two years later; and35 S. R. 624 - 2 - 26 LC 39 5132S WHEREAS, in 1976, he was elected the twenty-third Sheriff of Fa yette County and was36 successfully reelected by the citizens of Fayette County for eight terms; and37 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkab le and distinguished38 Georgian be appropriately recognized by dedicating an intersection in his honor.39 PART III40 WHEREAS, Mr. Donald Lyn Seabolt has devoted his life to protect ing the safety and41 well-being of the citizens of Dahlonega and Lumpkin County and his decades of leadership42 and service continue to benefit the community; and43 WHEREAS, Mr. Seabolt began his distinguished career of public s ervice in 1968 as a44 guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with the 25th Infantry Division of the United45 States Army, where he gained the training and discipline that s haped his lifelong46 commitment to emergency services; and47 WHEREAS, in 1972, he became the volunteer fire chief of Lumpkin County and went on to48 achieve historic milestones, including becoming the county's first paramedic during a time49 when emergency calls were still managed through local funeral homes; and50 WHEREAS, he served as civil defense director and director of th e Dahlonega-Lumpkin51 County Emergency Management Agency; and52 WHEREAS, Mr. Seabolt designed and implemented Lumpkin County's emergency 9-1-153 system, ensuring that emergency assistance could be accessed quickly and reliably through54 a modern communications framework; and55 S. R. 624 - 3 - 26 LC 39 5132S WHEREAS, his leadership and expertise extended state wide throu gh training emergency56 management professionals, serving as president of the Emergency Management Association57 of Georgia, earning his emergency management masters certificat ion, and serving on the58 State 9-1-1 Advisory Board; and59 WHEREAS, Mr. Seabolt's more than five decades of service established a lasting foundation60 of public safety and community resilience and it is abundantly fitting and proper that this61 remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recogniz ed by dedicating an62 intersection in his honor.63 PART IV64 WHEREAS, our nation's security continues to rely on patriotic m en and women who put65 their personal lives on hold in order to place themselves in ha rm's way to protect the66 freedoms that all United States citizens cherish; and67 WHEREAS, Sgt. Major John Barry Dean was born in Aberdeen, Washington, on August 28,68 1949, the beloved son of Eddie and Irene Dean; and69 WHEREAS, he graduated from Arab High School in Arab, Alabama, in 1967, and earned70 bachelor's and master's degrees from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University; and71 WHEREAS, Sgt. Major Dean served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with72 the United States Marine Corps and honorably served this nation for 36 years as an avionics73 technician until his retirement as the Sergeant Major of the 24th Marine Regiment in 2004;74 and75 S. R. 624 - 4 - 26 LC 39 5132S WHEREAS, his professional career included work with Boeing, Martin Marietta, Rockwell,76 and Lockheed Martin, where he served as a quality engineer in the F-22 Raptor program; and77 WHEREAS, Sgt. Major Dean was elected to the Paulding County School Board in 2018 and78 served over six years with enthusiasm and a deep love for the students, staff, and schools he79 represented; and80 WHEREAS, he embodied the spirit of service and willingness to find meaning in something81 greater than himself, and it is abundantly fitting and proper t hat this remarkable and82 distinguished Georgian be recognized appropriately by dedicatin g an intersection in his83 memory.84 PART V85 WHEREAS, correctional officers Christopher Monica and Curtis Bi llue were highly86 regarded by the citizens of their community and state and by local government officials as87 persons of unquestioned integrity and dedication to the sound principles of law enforcement;88 and89 WHEREAS, Sergeant Monica began his career with the Georgia Department of Corrections90 in October, 2009, as a correctional officer at Hancock State Pr ison before serving as a91 sergeant with Baldwin State Prison, the transportation unit, an d Augusta State Medical92 Prison; and93 WHEREAS, Sergeant Billue began his career with the Georgia Department of Corrections94 in July, 2007, as a correctional officer at the Frank Scott Correctional Facility before serving95 at the Georgia Diagnostic Classification Prison, Baldwin State Prison, and with the96 transportation unit; and97 S. R. 624 - 5 - 26 LC 39 5132S WHEREAS, Sergeant Monica and Sergeant Billue diligently and con scientiously devoted98 innumerable hours of their time, talents, and energy toward the betterment of their99 communities and state; and100 WHEREAS, their lives were tragically cut short in the line of duty when they were shot and101 killed by two inmates who escaped during transport; and102 WHEREAS, Sergeant Monica and Sergeant Billue exhibited extraordinary devotion to public103 service, outstanding loyalty, fine leadership, and meticulous attention to detail in all of their104 duties and it is abundantly fitting and proper that these remar kable and distinguished105 Georgians be recognized appropriately by dedicating a road in their memory.106 PART VI107 WHEREAS, Mr. Richard Keith "Rick" Worley devoted his life and career to the community108 of Catoosa County and Ringgold, Georgia; and109 WHEREAS, a native of Catoosa County and cornerstone to his comm unity, Mr. Worley110 graduated from Ringgold High School and successfully owned and operated the Rick Worley111 and Son Autobody shop; and112 WHEREAS, after the tragic passing of his son in 2010, Mr. Worley established the Hunter113 Worley Foundation which assists grieving parents in North Georgia and Tennessee Valley114 with funeral and burial expenses; and115 WHEREAS, Mr. Worley gave selflessly to his local community through his work sponsoring116 numerous fundraising efforts at Graysville Elementary School an d local middle and high117 schools in Catoosa County; and118 S. R. 624 - 6 - 26 LC 39 5132S WHEREAS, he provided professional services to local police and fire departments and119 frequently donated equipment and drivers for community parades; and120 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkab le and distinguished121 Georgian be appropriately recognized by dedicating an intersection in his memory.122 PART VII123 WHEREAS, United States Treasurer Brandon L. Beach has long been recognized by the124 citizens of this state for the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal125 commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and126 WHEREAS, he served the people of Georgia with distinction for over two decades, having127 been elected to the Georgia State Senate in 2013 representing District 21; and128 WHEREAS, Treasurer Beach held several influential positions in the Senate, including129 Chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee, where he was instrumental in advancing130 transportation and infrastructure reforms critical to Georgia's economic growth and global131 competitiveness, and Chairman of the Senate Economic Developmen t and Tourism132 Committee, where he focused on fostering a business friendly environment in this state; and133 WHEREAS, Treasurer Beach served as the executive director and f ounder of the North134 Fulton Improvement District and has held key leadership roles w ith the Georgia Regional135 Transportation Authority, the Georgia Department of Transportation, and the Fulton County136 Development Authority; and137 S. R. 624 - 7 - 26 LC 39 5132S WHEREAS, he was appointed by President Donald J. Trump to serve as the United States138 Treasurer, a role in which he oversees the nation's financial o perations, manages the U.S.139 Mint and Fort Knox, and advises on matters of fiscal policy; and140 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkab le and distinguished141 Georgian be recognized appropriately by dedicating a road in his honor.142 PART VIII143 WHEREAS, Ms. Abigail Savoie grew up in Fayette County, Georgia, playing soccer,144 cheerleading, swimming, and running; and145 WHEREAS, she attended Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville, which she146 affectionately referred to as "Milli," and was an active member of Alpha Gamma Delta147 Sorority; and148 WHEREAS, Ms. Savoie studied public health and had hopes of join ing the Center for149 Disease Control upon graduation, where she could put her compassion and heart into helping150 others; and151 WHEREAS, she was a people person who cared for the well-being of other people, always152 the first to help out another in need; and153 WHEREAS, Ms. Savoie's life was tragically cut short on October 21, 2022, when returning154 to school, her vehicle was struck at the intersection of GA 16 and High Falls Road and155 England Chapel Road near Jackson, Georgia, by a driver who ran a stop sign; and156 S. R. 624 - 8 - 26 LC 39 5132S WHEREAS, although the loss of this smart, energetic, and beautiful soul can never be filled,157 her death called attention to the other numerous accidents at t he intersection where her158 vehicle was struck, and resulted in plans to convert the intersection into a safer roundabout,159 likely saving the lives of other motorists; and160 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkab le and distinguished161 Georgian be recognized appropriately by dedicating a roundabout in her memory.162 PART IX163 WHEREAS, Dr. James Larry Boss has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for164 the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep pe rsonal commitment to the165 welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and166 WHEREAS, Dr. Boss was born to a sharecropper during the Great Depression and graduated167 from McDonough High School, where he was an outstanding football player; and168 WHEREAS, a graduate of Emory University and Medical College of Georgia, Dr. Boss169 served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty as a flight surgeon with the United170 States Air Force; and171 WHEREAS, Dr. Boss has been a devoted and dedicated fan of Villa Rica High School's172 football program and served as the Wildcats team physician providing aid to injured players173 and fans for decades; and174 WHEREAS, his leadership and guidance have been instrumental on numerous boards and175 organizations, including the Villa Rica City Ethics Board, Bank of Villa Rica, Regions Bank,176 and the Rapha Clinic; and177 S. R. 624 - 9 - 26 LC 39 5132S WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkab le and distinguished178 Georgian be recognized appropriately by dedicating a road in his honor.179 PART X180 WHEREAS, former State Representative "Able" Mable Thomas was a fearless activist and181 legislator whose life and legacy were deeply rooted in Atlanta's Vine City community, where182 she was born, raised, and later called to serve with unwavering dedication; and183 WHEREAS, shaped by Vine City's central role in Atlanta's civil rights history,184 Representative Thomas carried forward the neighborhood's tradit ion of resistance,185 organizing, and community leadership in her lifelong fight for racial justice, equity, and186 Black political empowerment; and187 WHEREAS, throughout her service in the Georgia House of Representatives, Representative188 Thomas remained firmly grounded in Vine City, using her platform to speak truth to power189 and advocate relentlessly for the residents and working families of her community; and190 WHEREAS, renaming this intersection in honor of Representative "Able" Mable Thomas191 permanently recognizes her profound impact on Vine City and Atl anta, ensuring that the192 legacy of a daughter of the community who became its champion i s etched into the very193 streets she fought to uplift; and194 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkab le and distinguished195 Georgian be appropriately recognized by dedicating an intersection in her honor.196 S. R. 624 - 10 - 26 LC 39 5132S PART XI 197 WHEREAS, Mr. Jerry Hoy has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital198 role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to the welfare of the199 citizens of Georgia; and200 WHEREAS, Mr. Hoy was one of the founding leaders of the Castleberry Hill Neighborhood201 Association in Atlanta, Georgia, and was a central figure in th e neighborhood's early202 revitalization; and203 WHEREAS, he played a key role in the development of the Castleb erry Hill master plan,204 hosting planning sessions and helping to shape the zoning, design guidelines, and community205 vision that laid the foundation for the modern Castleberry Hill Historic District; and206 WHEREAS, Mr. Hoy's leadership was pivotal during the neighborho od's transition from207 decades of industrial decline into the vibrant residential and arts community it is today; and208 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkab le and distinguished209 American be recognized appropriately by dedicating a road in his memory.210 PART XII211 WHEREAS, Mr. Jim S. Briscoe has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the212 vital role that he played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to the welfare of the213 citizens of Walton County, Georgia; and214 WHEREAS, born in Between, Georgia, Mr. Briscoe was raised on hi s family's farm and215 graduated from Monroe High School; and216 S. R. 624 - 11 - 26 LC 39 5132S WHEREAS, he served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty in the United States217 Navy, serving as a machinist in the engine room of a minesweeper during World War II; and 218 WHEREAS, upon completion of his service to this nation, Mr. Briscoe returned to Between219 to work on the family farm before his employment with DuPont as a maintenance electrician;220 and221 WHEREAS, Mr. Briscoe made history as the first mayor of Between with his election in222 1970; and223 WHEREAS, Mr. Briscoe served with honor and distinction as the mayor of Between and his224 vision and unyielding commitment set the standard for public service; and225 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkab le and distinguished226 Georgian be recognized appropriately by dedicating an intersection in his memory.227 PART XIII228 WHEREAS, Mr. Raymond Crawford McGhee, Jr., was educated in the Springfield A & I229 School in the Log Cabin Community of Hancock County, Georgia; and 230 WHEREAS, a talented farmer, Mr. McGhee grew produce that he sha red with all and231 worked for the Sparta Furniture Factory for many years; and 232 WHEREAS, he diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his time,233 talents, and energy toward the betterment of his community and state as evidenced234 dramatically by his superlative service with the Georgia Department of Transportation, where235 he served as a foreman for 37 years; and236 S. R. 624 - 12 - 26 LC 39 5132S WHEREAS, a man of deep and abiding faith, Mr. McGhee was a long time member of the237 New Hope Powelton Baptist Church; and238 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkab le and distinguished239 Georgian be recognized appropriately by dedicating a bridge in his memory.240 PART XIV241 WHEREAS, Mr. Hassan Raheem Glasgow was born on March 3, 1993, i n Key West,242 Florida, a beloved son of Darlene Mathis and Edward Glasgow; and243 WHEREAS, Mr. Glasgow graduated from King's Fork High School in Suffolk, Virginia, and244 was employed with Emory University as a computer support specialist; and245 WHEREAS, Mr. Glasgow gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep246 concern for his fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, an d understanding he247 demonstrated to his family and friends were admired by others; and248 WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation249 for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness, and by the example he made of his life, he250 made this world a better place in which to live; and251 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkab le and distinguished252 gentleman be recognized appropriately by dedicating a road in his memory.253 S. R. 624 - 13 - 26 LC 39 5132S PART XV254 WHEREAS, Mr. David Oscar Cummings was a lifelong resident of Wa shington County,255 Georgia, and graduated from Washington County High School in 19 78, where he was the256 STAR Student of his graduating class; and257 WHEREAS, he worked in the product labs at Imerys for over three decades, where his258 professionalism, generosity, and conscientiousness set the standard for his colleagues; and259 WHEREAS, an avid cyclist, Mr. Cummings participated in Randonneuring bicycling events260 which consist of long distance cycling and he started each year with a century ride of 100261 miles on New Year's Day; and262 WHEREAS, Mr. Cummings life was tragically cut short on April 30 , 2018, when he was263 struck from behind by a motorist while cycling on the outskirts of Sandersville; and264 WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation265 for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness, and by the example he made of his life, he266 made this world a better place in which to live; and267 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkab le and distinguished268 Georgian be recognized appropriately by dedicating a road in his memory.269 PART XVI270 WHEREAS, Mrs. Victoria Travis Jackson devoted her life to fighting for equity and working271 alongside some of the most prominent figures in American politi cal and social justice272 movements; and 273 S. R. 624 - 14 - 26 LC 39 5132S WHEREAS, born in 1932 in Atlanta, Georgia, Mrs. Jackson was edu cated at the historic274 David T. Howard High School, and at the age of 79, she enrolled at the Atlanta Metropolitan275 State College to demonstrate that the pursuit of knowledge has no expiration date; and 276 WHEREAS, Mrs. Jackson was a central figure in the movement to t ear down the "Peyton277 Wall," a concrete symbol of racial segregation in Atlanta; and 278 WHEREAS, she transformed the City of Atlanta's education landscape and opportunities by279 demanding and securing better textbooks and facilities for underserved communities; and280 WHEREAS, Mrs. Jackson collaborated with numerous civil rights i cons and leaders,281 including Mayor Maynard Jackson and Congressman John Lewis; and282 WHEREAS, Mrs. Jackson's life work serves as an enduring inspiration for current and future283 generations to continue the vital task of creating a more just and equitable society and it is284 abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkable and distingu ished Georgian be285 appropriately recognized by dedicating a road in her memory.286 PART XVII287 WHEREAS, Mr. Teddy Ray Webb has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for288 the vital role that he played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to the welfare289 of the citizens of Georgia; and290 WHEREAS, Mr. Webb was born in Hartwell, Georgia, on October 26, 1956, the beloved son291 of Ira and Carol Ann Webb; and292 S. R. 624 - 15 - 26 LC 39 5132S WHEREAS, he hailed from a family who dedicated their lives to b ridge construction in293 Georgia and visited worksites at a young age with his grandfather, father, and uncles; and294 WHEREAS, Mr. Webb began his career in bridge construction in 19 74, and during his295 illustrious 50 year career he traveled the state and trained numerous workers in a variety of296 vocational skills related to construction; and297 WHEREAS, Mr. Webb worked diligently on projects within his comm unity, including298 renovations to ball fields and concession stands for the Johnso n County Recreation299 Department and renovations to the press box and weight room of Johnson County High300 School; and301 WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation302 for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness, and by the example he made of his life, he303 made this world a better place in which to live; and304 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkab le and distinguished305 Georgian be recognized appropriately by dedicating a bridge in his memory.306 PART XVIII307 WHEREAS, the Honorable Mandi Lia Ballinger has long been recognized by the citizens of308 this state for the vital role that she has played in leadership and her deep personal309 commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and310 WHEREAS, Representative Ballinger was born on April 14, 1975, and grew up in Forsyth311 County, Georgia; and312 S. R. 624 - 16 - 26 LC 39 5132S WHEREAS, she served as a victim advocate with the district attorney's offices in Cherokee313 and Forsyth counties before founding and directing the Child Advocacy Center; and 314 WHEREAS, she was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in 2012, representing315 the citizens of the 23rd District and was a tireless advocate for justice, children, and survivors316 of domestic violence and served as chairperson of the House Judiciary Juvenile Committee;317 and318 WHEREAS, during her tenure with the General Assembly, Represent ative Ballinger319 championed legislation to protect domestic violence survivors, combat child abuse, and320 reform the juvenile justice system; and321 WHEREAS, Representative Ballinger was a staunch advocate for the Second Amendment,322 which was recognized with commendations, including the prestigious Defender of Freedom323 Award from the National Rifle Association and Legislator of the Year from Georgia Carry;324 and 325 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkab le and distinguished326 Georgian be recognized appropriately by dedicating an interchange in her memory.327 PART XIX328 WHEREAS, Mr. Herman Douglas Everett has long been recognized by the citizens of this329 state for the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to330 the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and331 WHEREAS, Mr. Everett graduated from Sylvester High School and a ttended the Georgia332 Institute of Technology and Georgia Southern University; and333 S. R. 624 - 17 - 26 LC 39 5132S WHEREAS, he was the founder and president of Southern Appraisal Company, where he334 appraised commercial real estate for over 30 years; and335 WHEREAS, Mr. Everett's leadership was instrumental to organizations such as the Albany336 Planning and Zoning Commission and the Albany City Commission, where he served as337 mayor pro tem for two terms; and338 WHEREAS, he was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in 1996 before serving339 on the Georgia Public Service Commission for almost two decades; and340 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkab le and distinguished341 Georgian be recognized appropriately by dedicating a road in his memory.342 PART XX343 WHEREAS, Mayor A.R. "Rick" Roberts III has long been recognized by the citizens of this344 state for the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to345 the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and346 WHEREAS, he has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his time,347 talents, and energy toward the betterment of his community and state as evidenced348 dramatically by his superlative service as mayor of Ball Ground, Georgia; and349 WHEREAS, during his tenure, Mayor Roberts expanded Ball Ground' s sanitary sewer350 system by increasing the water capacity seven fold; upgraded se veral city government351 buildings including a new city hall, fire station, police station, library, senior center, and post352 office; and revitalized and expanded the many beautiful parks and recreational areas of Ball353 Ground such as Calvin Farmer Park and Roberts Lake Trail; and354 S. R. 624 - 18 - 26 LC 39 5132S WHEREAS, his vision and leadership lead to Ball Ground obtainin g approval for a truck355 bypass, the widening of Old Dawsonville Road, and the expansion of city sidewalks356 connecting over 50 percent of residents to downtown, revitalizing the city for citizens and357 tourists; and358 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkab le and distinguished359 Georgian be recognized appropriately by dedicating an intersection in his honor.360 PART XXI361 WHEREAS, Mr. Sidney R. Boggs began his professional career with Unit ed States Gypsum748 Corporation before founding Benchmark Homes and B&W Properties in 1971; and749 WHEREAS, under his leadership, more than 3,000 homes were built and commercial and750 industrial projects exceeding $750 million in value were develo ped, significantly751 strengthening the region's tax base and economic vitality; and752 WHEREAS, he played an instrumental role in the economic development of this state with753 the development of Arbor Place Mall in Douglas County, renovation of a 300,000 square foot754 facility now home to Sugar Foods Corporation, development of industrial sites near Liberty755 Road in Villa Rica, and the c onstruction of facilities for the Tanner Health System and756 numerous manufacturing and warehouse projects in Carroll County; and757 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkab le and distinguished758 Georgian be recognized appropriately by dedicating an intersection in his honor.759 PART XXXXII760 WHEREAS, Reverend Bennie R. R. 624 - 42 - 26 LC 39 5132S WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this849 remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recogniz ed by dedicating an850 interchange in his honor.851 PART XXXXVI852 WHEREAS, the State of Georgia continues to mourn the loss of on e of the University of853 Georgia's legends with the passing of Mr. Dan Magill in August of 2014; and854 WHEREAS, Mr. Magill was born on January 25, 1921, and was a native of Athens, Georgia,855 where he began his lifelong affiliation with the University of Georgia athletic program as a856 bat boy for the baseball team and manager for the tennis team; and857 WHEREAS, as an attendee of the University of Georgia, Mr. Magil l was an invaluable858 member of the university's swim and tennis teams, volunteered as an assistant football coach,859 and was a member of the Chi Psi fraternity before graduating with a degree in journalism in860 1942; and861 WHEREAS, Mr. Magill served as a guardian of this nation's freed om and liberty with the862 United States Marine Corps during World War II and, upon his return home, worked briefly863 as the prep sports editor with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution; and864 WHEREAS, in 1949, this lifelong Bulldog returned home to his alma mater to serve as the865 university's sports information director, and later he establis hed The Georgia Bulldog866 newspaper and founded the Bulldog Club; and867 WHEREAS, Mr. Magill assumed the role as the head coach of the u niversity's tennis868 program in 1954, a position he proudly held for 34 years; and869 S.
