What this collection holds, and what it leaves out
- Opinions come from CourtListener and, for decisions it has not yet published, from the Supreme Court of Georgia's own website (62 opinions at present). When CourtListener publishes one of those decisions, its record replaces the court-sourced one and the old address redirects to it.
- The court's website index was last compared on 2026-10-15: every decision it listed through 2026-10-14 is here.
- Records whose text is shorter than 200 characters are not included.
- Each decision is counted once: where two records hold one decision (CourtListener's slip opinion and its Georgia Reports copy, or a court-website record and CourtListener's), the better copy is kept and the other record's id redirects to it (118 so far).
- The filing date is the decision date the court printed in the opinion for 63 opinions (every court-website record, and CourtListener records whose date disagreed with the caption); every other date is CourtListener's. For 1 court-website records whose PDF prints no date, the date is the day the court posted it.
- Spanish translations of the summaries exist for 1,777 of the 1,778 opinions with summaries (`lang=es`); the text of an opinion, and every quote from it, stays in English.

McFarland v. State
The Supreme Court of Georgia upheld Travis McFarland's convictions for felony murder and gang crimes in a fatal LaGrange robbery, finding sufficient evidence of gang motive and no error in denying a self-defense jury instruction.
Miller v. State
The Supreme Court of Georgia sent a man's decades-old life sentence for felony murder back to a Cherokee County judge, ruling the judge should have considered whether the punishment is unconstitutionally excessive rather than dismissing the claim outright.
Monroe v. State

Shine v. State
The Supreme Court of Georgia upheld the denial of a Bibb County man's third attempt at an out-of-time appeal from his 2006 murder plea, ruling his ineffective-assistance claim had already been rejected in an earlier habeas case.
Smith v. State
The Supreme Court of Georgia upheld Alex Khalil Smith's murder conviction in the shooting of Cassandra Arnold but sent the case back because the trial judge never actually used his own discretion to decide whether the verdict deserved a new trial.
Sneed v. State
The Supreme Court of Georgia upheld Calvin Sneed's murder conviction for shooting Gregory Jones, rejecting claims his trial lawyer was ineffective, but sent the case back to fix sentencing errors on two firearm counts.
Spann v. State

Badie v. State

Bustamente v. State
The Supreme Court of Georgia upheld a Cobb County man's life sentence for murder, rejecting his claim that the trial judge violated his due process rights by discussing the risks of testifying and citing his lack of remorse at sentencing.
