HB 1608: Georgia Youth Advisory Council; create

Georgia currently has no formal statewide council of young people advising the Governor. This bill would add a new article to state law (O.C.G.A. Title 50, Chapter 12) creating the Georgia Youth Advisory Council, made up of 15 members: one youth from each of Georgia's congressional districts plus one at-large member appointed by the Governor. Members must be state residents between 14 and 21 when appointed, serve two-year terms, and can be reappointed. The Governor's office would run the application process. The council would elect its own chairperson and meet at least quarterly. Its job is to advise the Governor on issues affecting young people, including education, employment, safe environments, substance abuse, health, foster care, poverty, homelessness, and access to services.
