HB 760: Glynn County; board of commissioners; chairperson and members; change annual salary

This bill amends the 1937 local law that created the Glynn County Board of Commissioners, most recently updated in 2001, to change how much its members are paid. The chairperson's annual salary rises to $28,000 with a $600 monthly expense allowance, the vice chairperson's rises to $27,000 with the same $600 monthly allowance, and other board members receive $26,000 annually with a $550 monthly allowance. The bill also adds a new condition on that pay: any chairperson, vice chairperson, or board member who fails to attend at least one regularly scheduled board meeting in a given month will not be paid for that month, unless a majority of the board votes to excuse the absence for illness or other good cause. The changes are set to take effect on July 1, 2025.

Glynn County commissioners would see higher pay under this bill, but they would also risk losing a month's salary if they skip every regular board meeting that month without an excused reason, tying their compensation more directly to meeting attendance.

• Section 1 rewrites the first unnumbered paragraph of Section 6 of the 1937 Glynn County commission act to set new annual salaries and monthly expense allowances for the chairperson, vice chairperson, and other members.
• Section 1 also adds a pay-withholding rule for any month in which a commissioner attends no regularly scheduled board meeting, unless a majority of the board excuses the absence for illness or other good cause.
• Section 2 sets the effective date as July 1, 2025.
• Section 3 repeals any conflicting laws.
