House Resolution 137

By: Representatives Gullett of the 19th, Gambill of the 15th, New of the 40th, Scoggins of the 14th, Momtahan of the 17th, and others

A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Mr. Tim Williams for his outstanding service to GreyStone Power as well as the communities and members it serves; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. Tim Williams has embodied the cooperative spirit over his 40-plus years of service at GreyStone Power; and

WHEREAS, he has diligently worked to make life better in the communities GreyStone serves through his leadership in communications and crisis management since beginning his career at the electric cooperative in October 1984; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Williams served as an editorial specialist, communication specialist, director of public relations and education, and vice president of cooperate affairs before his promotion to his current role as vice president of marketing and external affairs; and

WHEREAS, GreyStone Power and its members have benefitted from Mr. Williams' expertise through several major events, including the rebranding to GreyStone Power from its previous name of Douglas County EMC and helping lead communication efforts during major storm events such as the Storm of the Century in 1993 and the destructive Hurricane Opal, which left 96 percent of GreyStone Power members without power in 1995; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Williams has been instrumental in strengthening ties with local, state, and federal legislative leaders, working to ensure that legislative and regulatory policies protected and benefitted cooperative members; and

WHEREAS, during Mr. Williams' leadership of the marketing and affairs division, GreyStone Power earned the coveted Edgar F. Chesnutt Award for Best Total Communication Program from the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association in 2014 and the 2019 J.D. Power Award for ranking highest in customer satisfaction in the J.D. Power Electric Utility Residential Customer Satisfaction Study; and

WHEREAS, appointed by Governor Nathan Deal in 2013 and reappointed in 2018 by Governor Brain Kemp, Mr. Williams served on the Technical College System of Georgia State Board; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Williams is known for his caring attitude, jovial personality, and giving heart; he and his wife Nancy have two children, Anna and Tom, and are active members in their community and church.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend Mr. Tim Williams for his exemplary service to Greystone Power, congratulate him upon the grand occasion of his retirement, and extend the most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Mr. Tim Williams.
