House Resolution 139

A RESOLUTION

Recognizing February 4, 2025, as Georgia Association of Voter Registration and Election Officials Day at the state capitol; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Voter Registrar's Association of Georgia (VRAG) was established in 1969 for the purpose of educating, assisting, and communicating the Georgia Election Code to registrars throughout the State of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, the Georgia Election Officials Association (GEOA) was established in 1985 for the purpose of educating, assisting, and communicating the Georgia Election Code to all election officials and probate judges serving as election superintendents throughout the State of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, in 2017, VRAG and GEOA voted to combine and become a joined association, the Georgia Association of Voter Registration and Election Officials, with the majority of Georgia's counties combining boards individually; and

WHEREAS, it is a registrar's responsibility to register individuals to vote, to keep records of these individuals, and to issue absentee ballots; and

WHEREAS, it is the responsibility of election superintendents and probate judges to conduct elections and maintain voting equipment; and

WHEREAS, election officials and registration officials pledge to freedom and democracy and uphold strict and high standards of conduct within their profession so that the public may have due confidence in them while exercising their right to vote; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the hard work and high standards of all election officials and registrars in the State of Georgia be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize February 4, 2025, as Georgia Association of Voter Registration and Election Officials Day at the state capitol. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the Georgia Association of Voter Registration and Election Officials.
