A RESOLUTION

Urging action to protect the statue of Juliette Gordon Low within the Juliette Gordon Low Building; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, located in Savannah, Georgia, and completed in 1986, the Juliette Gordon Low Federal Building/Complex was one of the very first federal facilities in the nation to be named for a woman; and

WHEREAS, the facility is named after Juliette Gordon Low, the founder of Girl Scouts of the USA; and

WHEREAS, founded in 1912, Girl Scouts of the USA has grown to become the largest and most successful organization for girls in the world; and

WHEREAS, over the past 114 years, approximately 60 million American women have been Girl Scouts; and

WHEREAS, today, 1 in 3 adult women in the United States are Girl Scout alums; and

WHEREAS, Girl Scouts of the USA is part of a global Girl Scouting and Guiding movement, called the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGS) spanning approximately 150 countries, empowering young people and promoting peace around the world; and

WHEREAS, the Juliette Gordon Low Federal Building/Complex honors the contributions of Juliette Gordon Low and the Girl Scouts; and

WHEREAS, the building contains a small statue of Juliette Gordon Low; and

WHEREAS, preservation of the statue within the green space created from the demolition of the the Juliette Gordon Low Federal Building/Complex, or its donation to the City of Savannah, would serve to honor, preserve, and commemorate the distinguished history of the Girl Scouts.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body urge action to protect the statue of Juliette Gordon Low within the Juliette Gordon Low Federal Building/Complex.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the press.
