House Resolution 1547

A RESOLUTION

Congratulating and commending Nancy Daves for receiving the 2026 Yellow Rose Nikki T. Randall Servant Leadership Award; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, in 1999, Representative Nikki T. Randall became the first African American female elected to the General Assembly from middle Georgia, and over her 17 years of service as a legislator, she held numerous leadership positions, including chair of the Georgia Women's Legislative Caucus; and

WHEREAS, every year during Women's History Month, the Georgia Women's Legislative Caucus recognizes outstanding women in Georgia who exemplify the leadership and inspiration embodied by Representative Randall; and

WHEREAS, Nancy Daves has served in leadership for a number of conservation organizations in Georgia, including the Tybee Island Marine Science Center, where she works on protection of North Atlantic Right Whales from large and small vessels along Georgia's coast; the Georgia Sierra Club, where she helped lead the fight to protect the Okefenokee Swamp, one of Georgia's greatest natural treasures, from mining, including urging members of the Georgia Legislature to pass legislation prohibiting mining along the swamp's edge; and the Georgia Interfaith Power and Light, where she advocates for policies that ensure safe, accessible water, renewable energy, and environmental justice for all; and

WHEREAS, before moving to Georgia in 2016, Nancy worked on international marine conservation, including environmental, political and enforcement issues, for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration for 23 years; and

WHEREAS, Nancy is a woman of unassuming greatness whose humble acts of kindness and generosity have uplifted her entire community; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this extraordinary servant leader be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body congratulate and commend Nancy Daves for receiving the 2026 Yellow Rose Nikki T. Randall Servant Leadership Award and extend best wishes for her continued success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Nancy Daves.
