HR 1669: House Study Committee on End of Life Issues; create

This resolution creates the House Study Committee on End of Life Issues, made up of five members of the Georgia House of Representatives appointed by the Speaker, who also names the chairperson. The committee's job is to study end-of-life issues in Georgia, including the financial burdens of long-term care and end-of-life planning, how family members can support loved ones facing these decisions, and the challenges faced by caregivers. The resolution specifically directs the committee to look at how other states handle death with dignity and assisted death laws, to consider whether Georgia's current laws should change. The committee can meet as needed, members receive standard legislative allowances (O.C.G.A. § 28-1-8) for up to five days unless more are approved, and funding comes from the House's existing budget. Any report or recommended legislation must be approved by a majority of a quorum before the committee is abolished on December 1, 2026.
