House Resolution 1707

A RESOLUTION

Encouraging the creation of the Georgia Legislative Golf Caucus; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the game of golf plays a significant role in the economy, tourism industry, and cultural identity of the State of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Georgia is home to some of the most recognized golf destinations in the world and hosts globally recognized tournaments, such as the Masters Tournament, Tour Championship, and numerous PGA and USGA Championships; and

WHEREAS, the golf industry in Georgia supports thousands of jobs across course operations, hospitality, tourism, manufacturing, turf management, and youth development programs; and

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia has invested in the future of golf across the state through state parks and public golf courses, which serve as an instrumental tool in communities and for visitors to our state parks; and

WHEREAS, golf serves as an important platform for youth engagement, workforce development, and outdoor recreation across communities throughout this state; and

WHEREAS, many organizations across Georgia promote youth golf participation, including programs such as First Tee, US Kids Golf, PGA Jr. League, and initiatives supported by the Georgia State Golf Association; and

WHEREAS, the members of the General Assembly recognize the value of promoting policies that support outdoor recreation, youth development, tourism, and economic growth associated with the golf industry.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that members of this body encourage the creation of the Georgia Legislative Golf Caucus. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT:

(1) Membership in the Georgia Legislative Golf Caucus shall be voluntary and open to all members of the General Assembly;

(2) The caucus shall elect a chairperson and vice chairperson from among its members and may adopt additional procedures as necessary for the conduct of its activities; and

(3) The caucus may collaborate with organizations, courses, tourism entities, and youth programs across Georgia to advance the mission of the caucus. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to appropriate stakeholders within the Georgia golf community.
