House Resolution 1838

By: Representatives Crawford of the 89th, Oliver of the 84th, Gunter of the 8th, Thomas of the 21st, and Cannon of the 172nd

A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Liz Fernandes; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, a graduate of Northern Kentucky University, Liz Fernandes has been working in the game of golf as an assistant golf professional, a college coach, and a teaching professional since obtaining her degree in 2012; and

WHEREAS, Fernandes has spent time as a golf fitness specialist and teaching professional at notable courses around the country including The Quarry in La Quinta, California, and Scarsdale Golf Club in Hartsdale, New York as well as at the University of Louisville, Spalding University, and the University of North Carolina; and

WHEREAS, currently Fernandes serves as the head coach of the Eagles golf team at Emory University; and

WHEREAS, in her first season as head coach, the Eagles took home a second place victory at the NCAA Championships; and

WHEREAS, she has mentored historic Eagle's athletes Sharon Mun, Carys Code, Ellen Dong, and Zimo Li; and

WHEREAS, in Fernandes' second season with the Eagles, they added another NCAA Championship title and athlete Carys Code made history as the second Eagle to ever win the individual NCAA Championship title; and

WHEREAS, Fernandes is a dedicated and passionate coach with an unwavering commitment to athlete success both on and off the course; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper to honor this remarkable mentor and coach.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend Liz Fernandes and extend their sincere best wishes for her continued health, happiness, and success. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Liz Fernandes.
