A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending the Georgia Caribbean American Heritage Coalition Inc.; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, in 2000, the Institute of Caribbean Studies began leading the celebration of June as Caribbean American Heritage Month in Washington, D.C.; and

WHEREAS, the Bill for National Caribbean American Heritage Month as introduced in Congress by Congresswoman Barbara Lee passed the House in June 2005 and the Senate in February 2006; and

WHEREAS, the Proclamation recognizing June as National Caribbean American Heritage month was issued by George W. Bush on June 6, 2006; and

WHEREAS, during Caribbean-American Heritage Month, we celebrate the great contributions of Caribbean Americans to the fabric of our nation and we pay tribute to the common culture and bonds of friendship that unite the United States and the Caribbean countries; and

WHEREAS, since its incorporation, the Georgia Caribbean American Heritage Coalition Inc., with the support of many Caribbean organizations, has held annual events to commemorate and celebrate Caribbean American Heritage Month in Georgia; and

WHEREAS, the Georgia Caribbean American Heritage Coalition Inc. works in close collaboration with many Caribbean American organizations and entities as represented in the diaspora here in the State of Georgia to showcase Caribbean history, culture and achievements; and

WHEREAS, the Georgia Caribbean American Heritage Coalition Inc. contributes and supports the efforts of many Caribbean American organizations and events to strengthen the community here in the State of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, the Georgia Caribbean American Heritage Coalition Inc., on this 20th anniversary of National Caribbean American Heritage Month, continues to build bridges and bring communities together in unity.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend the Georgia Caribbean American Heritage Coalition Inc. for its commitment, dedication, and efforts to promote unity and highlight the contributions that Caribbean Americans have made to communities in Georgia. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the Georgia Caribbean American Heritage Coalition Inc.
