Georgia prosecutors and defense attorneys currently deal with digital evidence such as body camera footage, cell phone data, and surveillance video that arrives in huge volumes and incompatible formats, often stored on DVDs, USB drives, or various cloud systems. This resolution does not change any law itself. Instead it creates the House Study Committee on Modernizing the Discovery Process through the Use of New Technologies to look at the problem. The committee would have 15 members, including legislators, district attorneys, state court solicitors, and designees from the Georgia Supreme Court, the Court of Appeals, the State Bar, and criminal defense lawyer groups. It can meet up to four times, and members receive standard state travel and expense allowances. The committee must file a report with any legislative recommendations before it is abolished on December 1, 2026, and that report must be made public.
