A RESOLUTION
Urging appropriate state and local authorities to transfer operation of the Georgia Capitol Museum from the University System of Georgia to the Georgia Building Authority; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, the Georgia Capitol Museum preserves the history of the Georgia State Capitol as well as the events that have taken place within its halls since its construction completed on July 4, 1889; and
WHEREAS, the museum collects, maintains, and exhibits significant artifacts, including historic flags and works of art, and offers educational tours to visitors and school groups; and
WHEREAS, the Georgia Building Authority is responsible for managing the facilities located in the Capitol Hill Complex, including the Georgia State Capitol; and
WHEREAS, the Georgia Building Authority is appropriately equipped to fund, manage, maintain, and staff the Georgia Capitol Museum and its historical assets as well as to perform other such duties and functions as are ordinarily exercised for its successful operation.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body urge the appropriate state and local authorities to transfer operation of the Georgia Capitol Museum from the University System of Georgia to the Georgia Building Authority.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the press.
