House Resolution 47

By: Representatives New of the 40th, Alexander of the 66th, and Baker of the 64th

A RESOLUTION

Commending Travis Strickland, the 2024 West Georgia Soil and Water Conservationist of the Year; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Travis Strickland is a fourth-generation farmer whose land is situated between Winston and Whitesburg, where his family has resided since before the Civil War; and

WHEREAS, originally a cotton farm through World War I under Moes Strickland, the farm transitioned to cattle upon Moes' return from the war, and it has since been operated by successive generations of the family, including Ervin Strickland, a World War II veteran, and Donald Strickland, a Vietnam War veteran; and

WHEREAS, Travis Strickland began his farming journey as a child by assisting with the family food plot and feeding cattle, and after the passing of his father in 2015, he assumed full responsibility of the farm, where he now breeds Angus cattle; and

WHEREAS, he has since continued its operations with the support of his wife, Mary, and their two young children, Kyler and Tate; and

WHEREAS, in addition to his work as a farmer, Travis Strickland serves his community as a full-time firefighter and operates a pine straw business; and

WHEREAS, this distinguished gentleman has given inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern for his fellow citizens, and he possesses the vast wisdom which only comes through experience and the strength of character which is achieved through overcoming the many challenges of life; and

WHEREAS, he is a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Travis Strickland, the 2024 West Georgia Soil and Water Conservationist of the Year, and extend sincere best wishes to the Strickland family for future health, happiness, and success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Travis Strickland.
