House Resolution 483

By: Representatives Bazemore of the 69th, Hugley of the 141st, Ballard of the 147th, Carter of the 93rd, Glaize of the 67th, and others

A RESOLUTION

Commending Christy Todd, Georgia's 2024 Teacher of the Year; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, a proper quality education for the young people of this state is the single most important objective of the General Assembly; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of her outstanding dedication to the teaching profession, Christy Todd was named the Georgia Teacher of the Year in January 2024 as well as one of four finalists for the National Teacher of the Year; and

WHEREAS, during her tenure as Georgia Teacher of the Year, she delivered more than 125 keynote presentations statewide that focused on the importance of strengthening connections to support public education and presented recommendations on ways to make Georgia the top state for teachers; and

WHEREAS, she has been instrumental in fostering the next generation of educators by partnering with high schools, universities, and teacher associations, reaching more than 1,000 prospective educators to highlight the impact and influence of the teaching profession; and

WHEREAS, during her distinguished teaching career, she spent 15 years at Rising Starr Middle School in Fayette County Public Schools, where she served as chorus director and later founded the district's Community for Creativity initiative; and

WHEREAS, she now serves in a leadership role at the Georgia Department of Education, overseeing cross-departmental projects aimed at supporting teacher recruitment and retention while expanding the teacher pipeline; and

WHEREAS, in addition to her classroom and leadership contributions, she has an extensive background in nonprofit consulting and business development, is a published researcher, and is a founding member of the Story Arts Collective, an organization committed to growing Georgia's creative workforce; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of such remarkable contributions to the education and welfare of Georgia's students, it is abundantly fitting and proper for this body to honor the extraordinary accomplishments and academic achievements of this outstanding educator.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Christy Todd, Georgia's 2024 Teacher of the Year, for her extraordinary contributions to education and express their most sincere best wishes for continued success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Christy Todd.
