A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett has devoted her career to protecting civil liberties and ensuring equality for all, serving as a public defender, civil rights attorney, state representative, and United States congresswoman; and

WHEREAS, since taking office as the United States representative for Texas' 30th Congressional District in January 2023, she has worked tirelessly to advocate for justice, accountability, and accessibility in government while representing portions of Dallas and Tarrant counties; and

WHEREAS, in the 118th Congress, she was elected freshman leadership representative, and in the 119th Congress, she was appointed vice ranking member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform as well as ranking member of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Oversight; and

WHEREAS, prior to her congressional service, she was a dedicated member of the Texas House of Representatives, where she was the sole Black freshman and youngest Black lawmaker during the 87th Legislative Session; and

WHEREAS, as a state representative, she filed more bills than any other freshman, built a broad coalition to pass landmark criminal justice reforms, and co-founded both the Texas Progressive Caucus and the Texas Caucus on Climate, Energy, and the Environment; and

WHEREAS, she further played a critical role as one of the lead architects of the 2021 Texas House Quorum Break, which brought national attention to the restrictive voting measures being proposed in the legislature; and

WHEREAS, throughout her career, Congresswoman Crockett has demonstrated an unyielding commitment to civil rights, criminal justice reform, and economic opportunity, consistently working to protect the rights of the most vulnerable and ensure a more just and equitable society.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett for her efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service as well as extend the most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.
