A RESOLUTION
Commending PCOM Georgia and PCOM South Georgia; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, PCOM began educating and training healthcare professionals in Georgia 20 years ago, exemplifying Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine's dedication to addressing critical healthcare needs across the state; and
WHEREAS, PCOM Georgia was established in Suwanee in 2005 and celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, while PCOM South Georgia opened in Moultrie in 2019 and marks its fifth anniversary this year; and
WHEREAS, PCOM is now the second-largest medical school in Georgia, enrolling a total of 1,226 osteopathic medical students; and
WHEREAS, PCOM Georgia enrolls 972 students at its Suwanee campus, and PCOM South Georgia enrolls 254 students; and
WHEREAS, since their beginnings, PCOM Georgia and PCOM South Georgia have trained more than 3,100 highly competent, caring physicians, health practitioners, and behavioral scientists who practice a whole-person approach to care—treating people, not just symptoms; and
WHEREAS, PCOM students gain hands-on clinical experience in communities across Georgia, transforming the state into a dynamic learning environment and expanding access to care; and
WHEREAS, 1,876 PCOM alumni practice in Georgia, playing a vital role in delivering primary and specialty care, particularly in the state's rural and other underserved communities; and
WHEREAS, PCOM Georgia and PCOM South Georgia have achieved a 100 percent postgraduate placement rate for 2023 and 2024, with graduates securing residency positions at hospitals, medical centers, and healthcare institutions across the state; and
WHEREAS, these placements reinforce the institution's commitment to expanding medical education, strengthening the healthcare workforce, and addressing the needs of communities throughout Georgia.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend PCOM Georgia and PCOM South Georgia on their anniversaries and historic accomplishments as well as extend the sincerest gratitude for their dedicated service in addressing critical healthcare needs across Georgia. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to PCOM Georgia and PCOM South Georgia.
