A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Haywood Tucker; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Haywood Tucker, an Atlanta native, has long been recognized for his musical contributions and leadership in the State of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, starting with humble beginnings, recording his band in his parents' living room, he quickly expanded to opening Haywood's Recording Studio in 1978, in Atlanta, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, the first client at his studio was the renowned Atlanta funk band "The SOS Band," later Haywood would record other legendary singers and bands such as Curtis Mayfeild, Ollie Wilson of "The Temptations," Rev. Charles Davis, and Major Lance; and

WHEREAS, he also worked with and recorded political greats such as the late civil rights icon and Untied States Congressman John Lewis, Atlanta Mayor Maynard Jackson, civil rights activist Jessie Jackson, and Georgia State Representative "Able" Mable Thomas; and

WHEREAS, Haywood is known as the "Splice King" for his extraordinary ability to cut tape and put songs together; and

WHEREAS, to this day, Haywood continues to sing, record, and produce music along with his wife, children, and grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the musical, cultural, and creative talents of this outstanding Georgian are appropriately honored.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend Haywood Tucker and extend sincere best wishes for his continued health, happiness, and success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Haywood Tucker.
