A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Reverend Anthony Maurice Booker; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Reverend Anthony Maurice Booker has demonstrated his commitment to teaching the Gospel, witnessing Christ through word and deed, and addressing the physical, psychological, intellectual, and spiritual needs of others; and

WHEREAS, he was called by the Lord in 1992, and in February of 1994, Pastor Booker was ordained in the gospel ministry by his grandfather, the late Reverend Walter Booker Jr.; and

WHEREAS, God in his infinite wisdom placed him as pastor of the New Hope Baptist Church of Harlem, in January 1997, one month after the retiring of his grandfather; and

WHEREAS, his vision and direction helped New Hope Baptist Church grow in size and influence, uplifting the community like the light of Bethlehem and serving as a spiritual leader and place for fellowship; and

WHEREAS, Pastor Booker served the congregation of New Hope Baptist Church for 23 years; and

WHEREAS, on February 8, 2020, Broadway Baptist Church in Augusta, Georgia, called Pastor Booker as their eleventh Pastor; and

WHEREAS, Pastor Booker has lead Broadway Baptist Church in a total renovation and upgrade project, birthed several new ministries, and has established the Missional purpose as "Empowering People to Impact the World"; and

WHEREAS, he presently serves as President of the Baptist Ministers Conference of Augusta, is a Board member of the Downtown Development Authority of Augusta, and is President and CEO of South Augusta Community Development Corporation, Inc; an

WHEREAS, whether the task is preparing a sermon, visiting the sick, counseling the troubled, baptizing a new believer, or acting as a theologian, educator, administrator, or humanitarian, Pastor Booker serves as a shining example of God's righteous path; and

WHEREAS, the unmatched spiritual assistance offered by Pastor Booker is a source of strength and direction for persons in all walks of life; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this enduring example of God's message of peace and love be recognized and congratulated for his innumerable good works rendered on behalf of persons in need.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend Reverend Anthony Maurice Booker and extend best wishes for many more years of successful fellowship and leadership BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Reverend Anthony Maurice Booker.
