A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending Mr. Phil Lunney; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, Mr. Phil Lunney has demonstrated exceptional dedication, generosity, and commitment to service by volunteering countless hours to ensuring a positive first impression on Georgia State Capitol visitors, legislators, and staff; and
WHEREAS, each morning during the session, Mr. Phil Lunney commutes from Roswell, Georgia, to stand at the public entrance of the Georgia State Capitol with a smile and warm greeting; and
WHEREAS, after a group of volunteer greeters stopped showing up after the COVID-19 pandemic, Mr. Phil Lunney took up a position on Capitol Square SW to spread warmth and positivity; and
WHEREAS, he has been politically active since 1968, when he campaigned on behalf of Eugene McCarthy for president; and
WHEREAS, since moving to Georgia in 1986, he has selflessly supported numerous campaigns and actively serves with the Fulton Democrats; and
WHEREAS, while he is a passionate Democrat, when he stands on the capitol’s steps, he is a proud Georgian and non-partisan; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Phil Lunney is united in love and marriage to his wife of 52 years, Lorraine, and has three wonderful children; and
WHEREAS, when the Georgia General Assembly is not in session he spends his time traveling with his wife; and
WHEREAS, his unwavering commitment to his community and deep passion for public service have made him a beloved figure among those who work at and visit the Capitol; and
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding dedication of this remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend Mr. Phil Lunney's spirit for volunteerism, express gratitude for his contributions to the capitol community, and extend sincere best wishes for his continued health and happiness.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Mr. Phil Lunney.
