A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending Tisa Smart-Washington; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, March is celebrated as Women's History Month, a time to honor and recognize the invaluable contributions of women throughout history and across all fields and trades; and
WHEREAS,Tisa Smart-Washington 's contributions to the community reflect the core values of Women's History Month; and
WHEREAS, Tisa is an accomplished public servant and trailblazing leader who has served as Tax Commissioner of Rockdale County, Georgia, since 2016; and
WHEREAS, her journey in tax administration began in 2013, when she made history as the first African American to be appointed Chief Deputy Tax Commissioner in Rockdale County; and
WHEREAS, her 2016 election marked another milestone as she became the first African American woman elected Tax Commissioner in the county, and she further cemented her legacy as the first African American and the first woman to serve more than one term in the office; and
WHEREAS, in addition to her elected role, Tisa contributes her expertise at the state level, currently serving as Communications Chair and District Leader for the Georgia Association of Tax Officials and as Treasurer for the Tax Commissioners' Technology Development Council of Georgia; and
WHEREAS, during her tenure as Chair of the Rockdale County Democratic Party, Tisa led the charge in fielding a full slate of Democratic candidates in every local race-an unprecedented move known as the "Slate of Eight"; and
WHEREAS, this groundbreaking effort resulted in the most significant political power shift in Georgia during the 2012 election cycle and reshaped Rockdale County's political landscape, opening doors for African American leadership and inspiring future generations to step into public service; and
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding contributions of this remarkable woman are recognized during Women's History Month.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend Tisa Smart-Washington for her unwavering dedication to her community and extend sincere best wishes for her continued health and happiness.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Tisa Smart-Washington.
