SR 301: Senate Rosenwald Schools Study Committee; create

Rosenwald schools were built in the early 1900s through a partnership between Sears, Roebuck and Co. executive Julius Rosenwald and educator Booker T. Washington, funding schools for Black children across the rural South, including more than 240 schools in 103 Georgia counties. This resolution creates a five-member Senate study committee, appointed by the President of the Senate, to study the history, conditions, and impact of these schools on African American education and economic prosperity in Georgia. The committee's chairperson, designated by the President of the Senate, will call meetings as needed. Legislative members receive standard daily allowances under Georgia law (O.C.G.A. § 28-1-8) for up to five days unless more are authorized, funded through the Senate's budget. The committee must file a report of any findings or recommendations before it is abolished on December 1, 2025.
