By: Senators Wicks of the 34th and Davenport of the 17th

A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending the North Fayette Community Association; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the North Fayette Community Association (NFCA) was founded in August 2001 by local homeowners to address shared issues, interests, and concerns affecting the North Fayette community and was officially chartered as a non-profit, non-partisan organization in October 2001; and

WHEREAS, the NFCA was born out of a collective sense of under-representation at the county level and limited access to support, services, resources, and amenities, inspiring residents to organize for change; and

WHEREAS, the NFCA has since successfully defended the community from inappropriate developments such as the construction of a service station at the intersection of Highways 279 and 314, which would have posed serious challenges to the community; and

WHEREAS, in 2009, then-NFCA President Johnnie E. Jones Jr. led a major effort to correct unfair taxation practices that resulted in residents paying taxes to both Clayton and Fulton counties on large purchases, ultimately securing a zip code reassignment to the Fayetteville Postal System and increasing tax revenue for Fayette County; and

WHEREAS, the boundaries of North Fayette span from north of Georgia Highway 54 to Highway 138, east of Highway 74, and west of Highway 85, forming a vital region that has grown from 31,256 residents in 2000 to more than three times that number today; and

WHEREAS, North Fayette is home to many active and vibrant subdivisions, including Country Lake, Briarfield, Greer Woods, Westbridge I and II, Northridge, Princeton Chase, Providence, Hampstead Heath, Dix-Lee-On, Newton Plantation, and homes along Highways 279 and 314; and

WHEREAS, under the leadership of President Bobby Ferrell, the NFCA remains steadfast in its mission to ensure safe neighborhoods, support schools, prevent crime, preserve property values, and promote a high quality of life within North Fayette.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize and commend the North Fayette Community Association for its unwavering dedication to community advocacy as well as extend best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the North Fayette Community Association.
