By: Senators Sims of the 12th, Davenport of the 17th, Jackson of the 41st, Halpern of the 39th, Jones II of the 22nd and others

A RESOLUTION

Commending the Georgia Youth Science & Technology Centers (GYSTC) as well as the 2025 Don Cargill STEM Scholars for their innovative and integrated teaching of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in kindergarten through eighth grade classrooms; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, GYSTC is headquartered at Kennesaw State University with ten additional program sites across the state; and

WHEREAS, GYSTC was founded in April 1989 to promote interest and enthusiasm in STEM; and

WHEREAS, GYSTC works to improve the teaching and learning process by enhancing teaching methods and content knowledge; and

WHEREAS, GYSTC encourages students to pursue STEM careers; and

WHEREAS, GYSTC works to provide a greater and better-qualified workforce for Georgia's industries in the rural and underserved regions of the state; and

WHEREAS, GYSTC's is committed to professional learning for and recognition of teachers' innovative work to improve students' learning; and

WHEREAS, with better quality teachers and higher student achievement, GYSTC will help to broaden the pipeline of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics majors for Georgia's workforce.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend the Georgia Youth Science & Technology Centers (GYSTC) for their work, dedication, and devoted service to all teachers of Georgia and especially the 2025 Don Cargill STEM Scholars who demonstrate innovation and hard work in their classrooms. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the Georgia Youth Science & Technology Centers.
