A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending Georgia's working women for their contributions toward building strong families and supporting the Georgia Economy; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, Georgia strives to remain the number one state to do business, and economic security is an important concern for women, their children, their partners, and for the health of Georgia's communities and economy; and
WHEREAS, women comprise more than half of Georgia's adult population and are the primary or co-breadwinners in more than half of all Georgia households with children, making up over 65 percent of the low-wage, essential worker workforce; and
WHEREAS, research has shown that policy solutions such as salary transparency, increased paid sick days and paid leave, accessible and affordable childcare, stable housing and workplace protections have a positive impact on women and families, and would boast the Georgia economy by as much as $4.4 billion; and
WHEREAS, access to healthy foods, clean air and water, public transportation, affordable and safe housing, and equitable utility services are all integral to a working woman and her family's health and financial stability; and
WHEREAS, protections for pregnant women at work ensures that women remain an integral part of the workforce, have healthy pregnancies and deliveries, and strengthens Georgia families; and
WHEREAS, Georgia currently has the third highest uninsured rate in the country, affordable and accessible healthcare equates to a stronger and healthier workforce; and
WHEREAS, 60 percent of all Georgians cannot access the unpaid Family Medical Leave Act due to eligibility or being unable to afford to take leave without pay; implementing policies such as paid leave increases women's labor force participation rate.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body support legislation that would provide the economic support and security that women, their families, and the Georgia economy need.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the press.
