A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending Kimia Irmesha Flournoy on Women Veterans Appreciation Day at the Capitol; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, Kimia Irmesha Flournoy served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with the United States Marine Corps, valiantly and courageously protecting her fellow Americans from 1998 to 2006; and
WHEREAS, during her tenure in the military, she was stationed at seven different bases and was deployed in Norway and Iraq; and
WHEREAS, her awards and military decorations include the Presidential Unit Citation (1st FSSG), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbonwith 1 star, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, three Meritorious Masts, and three Letters of Appreciation; and
WHEREAS, she relocated to metro Atlanta after her departure from the military, where she took on leadership roles in various veteran service organizations such as Commander of American Legion Mundy-Beck Post 9-1-1 for four years, the Atlanta Mobile Food Distribution Coordinator for Soldiers Angels for two years, Team Lead for Minority Veterans of America (Atlanta Chapter) for two years, Project Coordinator for Society's Gardeners, Team RWB Atlanta Chapter Captain for two years, musician and coach with Alchemy Sky Veterans Music Project, and was The Mission Continues Atlanta 3rd Platoon Leader for three years; and
WHEREAS, this distinguished gentlewoman has given inspiration to many through her high ideals, morals, and deep concern for her fellow citizens, and she possesses the vast wisdom which only comes through experience and the strength of character which is achieved through overcoming the many challenges of life; and
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding contributions of this exemplary veteran are appropriately honored.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize and commend Kimia Irmesha Flournoy for the dedication, bravery, and sacrifices she has made to serve her country and extend sincere best wishes for her continued health, happiness, and success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Kimia Irmesha Flournoy.
