A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending the City of Powder Springs; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, the City of Powder Springs, founded as Springville in 1838, has played and important role in the growth and development of the State of Georgia; and
WHEREAS, initially looking for gold, settlers arrived in Springville to find a mild climate, rich soil, and seven inviting mineral springs that offered health and recreation to its residents and visitors; and
WHEREAS, the water from these springs contained minerals that turned the surrounding sand black, resembling gunpowder, and leading the town to be renamed Powder Springs in 1859; and
WHEREAS, located 25 miles northwest of Atlanta, Powder Springs is home to a beautiful historic downtown and Towne Square where events, concerts, shopping, and outdoor recreation is abundant; and
WHEREAS, the City of Powder Springs is inspired by the past, invigorated by the present and innovative about the future; and
WHEREAS, Powder Springs is known for its commitment to service, ethics, transparency, support, accountability, innovation, and leadership, reflecting the highest ideals of the State of Georgia; and
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding citizens, leaders, and employees of the City of Powder Springs are appropriately recognized.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize and commend the City of Powder Springs for its continued historical, economic, and cultural contributions to the State of Georgia.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the press.
