Senate Resolution 73

By: Senators Williams of the 25th, Kirkpatrick of the 32nd, Burns of the 23rd, Strickland of the 42nd, Anderson of the 24th and others

A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending the Georgia Speech-Language-Hearing Association; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Georgia Speech-Language-Hearing Association is a professional organization that supports speech-language pathologists (SLPs), audiologists, and speech, language, and hearing scientists in the State of Georgia and works to advance the interests of those professions and the public through education, mentoring, advocacy, resources, and service to ensure communication for all; and

WHEREAS, many Georgians have communication disorders, language impairment or hearing disorders, or swallowing and feeding disorders; and

WHEREAS, many of these disorders are caused by various things such as genetics, age, injury, disease and illness, and noise exposure; and

WHEREAS, SLPs and audiologists are among the health care professionals providing hearing screenings, evaluations, diagnoses, treatments, and management for these hearing losses as well as communication and swallowing disorders; and

WHEREAS, many of the professionals of the Georgia Speech-Language-Hearing Association serve Georgia's most vulnerable through the Medicaid, PeachCare for Kids, and Babies Can't Wait programs; and

WHEREAS, the Georgia Speech-Language-Hearing Association's members are licensed professionals, many of whom hold advanced degrees from accredited universities with special training programs; and

WHEREAS, the Georgia Speech-Language-Hearing Association's members may be found providing services in various settings, including hospitals, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, clinics, physicians' offices, private practices, client homes, pre-K through grade 12 schools, universities, and government and military practices; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this distinguished organization be appropriately honored for the health care and educational services its members provide to Georgia's citizens.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize and commend the Georgia Speech-Language-Hearing Association and its members for their many years of tireless, efficient, effective, and dedicated service to the citizens of this state as well as extend best wishes for continued success. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the Georgia Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
