SR 888: Senate Parent Accountability for Student Success Study Committee; create

This resolution does not change any law directly. Instead, it creates the Senate Parent Accountability for Student Success Study Committee, a temporary Senate body tasked with studying issues like student misconduct, declining parental engagement in academics, and rising chronic absenteeism across Georgia schools. The committee would have five members appointed by the President of the Senate, one of whom would serve as chairperson. The chairperson would call meetings, and the committee could meet wherever and whenever needed to do its work. Members would receive standard legislative allowances under O.C.G.A. § 28-1-8, capped at five days unless more are approved, paid from Senate funds. If the committee approves findings or legislative recommendations by majority vote, the chairperson must file a report with the Secretary of the Senate before the committee is abolished on December 1, 2026.
