By: Senators James of the 28th, Davenport of the 17th, Mangham of the 55th, Rhett of the 33rd and Jones II of the 22nd

A RESOLUTION

Honoring the life and memory of Reverend Robert Lee Abrams; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Reverend Robert Lee Abrams devoted his life to faith, service, civil rights, voting rights advocacy, education, and community empowerment; and

WHEREAS, as a young man in Mississippi, he courageously participated in efforts to register Black voters and support desegregation, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to justice and equality; and

WHEREAS, throughout his ministry in the United Methodist Church, Reverend Abrams provided spiritual guidance, pastoral care, mentorship and leadership to countless individuals and families; and

WHEREAS, he worked tirelessly to encourage civic engagement, voter participation, educational achievement, and community responsibility; and

WHEREAS, together with his wife, Reverend Carolyn Abrams, he raised seven children with a strong foundation of faith, service, leadership, and dedication to improving the lives of others; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Abrams inspired generations through community outreach, youth mentoring, volunteer service, advocacy for social justice, and support for underserved populations; and

WHEREAS, his life reflected the principle that every individual has a responsibility to contribute to the betterment of society, regardless of circumstance; and

WHEREAS, his enduring legacy continues through the countless lives he touched, the communities he strengthened, and leaders inspired.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Reverend Robert Lee Abrams, whose service, leadership, faith, and advocacy stand as a testament to the power of courage, compassion, integrity, and unwavering commitment to justice for all people. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the family of Reverend Robert Lee Abrams.
