House Resolution 1639

A RESOLUTION

Recognizing Mr. Darryl W. Jordan and dedicating an intersection in his honor; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. Darryl W. Jordan has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that he played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Clayton County, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Jordan graduated from Southwest High School in Macon, Georgia, where he served as vice president of his graduating class and drum major for the school's marching band; and

WHEREAS, he attended Grambling State University, where he was a member of the famous Grambling State "Tiger" band that performed around the country and transferred to Mercer University, where he earned bachelor's and master's degrees; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Jordan served as an educator in Henry County, dedicating 31 years to teaching and inspiring the next generation of leaders; and

WHEREAS, in 2000, he was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives and served as vice chairperson of the House Committee on Regulated Industries and as a member of the House Committees on Banks and Banking and Transportation; and

WHEREAS, his dedicated public service and vision has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Martin Luther King, Jr., Freedom Award from the Henry County Community; the Teacher Gold Cup, Teacher of the Year Award, and Community Leadership Award from Henry County Middle School; the Community Support Award from the Riverdale Parent Teacher Association; and the Distinguished Leadership in public service award from the Mercer University African American alumni; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkable and distinguished Georgian be recognized appropriately by dedicating an intersection in his honor.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND ENACTED BY THE GENERAL

ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA that the intersection of State Route 3CO (Tara Blvd) and Upper Riverdale Road in Clayton County is dedicated as the Darryl Jordan Intersection. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation is authorized and directed to erect and maintain appropriate signs dedicating the Darryl Jordan Intersection. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to Mr. Darryl W. Jordan and to the Department of Transportation.
