A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending David Curtis Bridges, PhD, upon his induction into the Georgia Agriculture Hall of Fame; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, David Curtis Bridges, PhD, has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, he has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his time, talents, and energy toward the betterment of his community and state as evidenced dramatically by his legacy of agricultural education and rural advocacy; and

WHEREAS, from 2006 to 2022, David served as the 10th president of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC), making him the longest serving college or university president in Georgia; and

WHEREAS, he has worked tirelessly for many years on behalf of rural Georgia, and his work with the Rural Caucus and the House Rural Development Council was instrumental in creating the Center for Rural Prosperity and Innovation at ABAC; and

WHEREAS, as interim director of Georgia's Center for Rural Prosperity and Innovation, David advocates for rural communities; and

WHEREAS, his expertise in defending the safety and demand for Georgia peanuts earned him recognition from the United States Department of Agriculture, the Georgia Department of Agriculture, and the Georgia Peanut Commission, which awarded him a Distinguished Service Award; and

WHEREAS, his pioneering work on weed control in tobacco led to the registration of two novel herbicides for use in Georgia tobacco fields; and

WHEREAS, his significant organizational and leadership talents, remarkable patience and diplomacy, keen sense of vision, and sensitivity to the needs of the citizens of this state have earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and associates; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the indelible agricultural contributions of this Georgian are appropriately honored.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend David Curtis Bridges, PhD, for his efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service to the State of Georgia; congratulate him upon the being inducted to the Georgia Agriculture Hall of Fame; and extend the most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to David Curtis Bridges, PhD.
