Senate Resolution 465

By: Senators Jones of the 10th, Harbison of the 15th, Mangham of the 55th, Sims of the 12th, Harrell of the 40th and others

A RESOLUTION

Commending and congratulating Calvin George Kemp Sr.; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Calvin George Kemp Sr. was born on June 2, 1923, in Atlanta, Georgia, and this year he enjoys the rare distinction of celebrating his 102nd birthday; and

WHEREAS, the devotion, patience, and understanding he has demonstrated have provided the foundation of success from which his family members have developed and flourished, as evidenced by his two wonderful children, four outstanding grandchildren, five exceptional great-grandchildren, and three cherished great-great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, he honorably served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with the United States Navy during World War II, during which he was stationed in the South Pacific Islands and Pearl Harbor; and

WHEREAS, a man of great faith, Calvin George Kemp Sr. has remained an active and devoted member of Saint Philip African Methodist Episcopal Church, where he serves on the Usher and Steward Boards, Finance Committee, and as director of the Seniors and Retirees Program; and

WHEREAS, he has dedicated much of his life to mentoring and guiding younger generations through his service as a scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America and as a little league baseball coach, helping to instill the values of leadership, teamwork, and perseverance in the youth of his community; and

WHEREAS, he has further shared his knowledge and skills as a brick mason instructor at Atlanta Medical College, helping to train and empower individuals in skilled trades that provide lasting career opportunities; and

WHEREAS, he has witnessed a dramatic change in the world over the course of his lifetime, and we salute his contribution to its progress through his tireless efforts on behalf of his community, state, and nation; and

WHEREAS, by the example Calvin George Kemp Sr. has made of his life, he makes this world a better place in which to live, and it is only fitting and proper that he be appropriately recognized during this very special and memorable time.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Calvin George Kemp Sr. for his unselfish, dedicated, and loving service to the members of his family and community; congratulate him on the remarkable occasion of his 102nd birthday; and extend their most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Calvin George Kemp Sr.
