Senate Resolution 87

A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Communities in Schools; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Communities in Schools (CIS) has highly trained site coordinators in schools across the state who assess students' needs and partner with local businesses, social service agencies, healthcare providers, and community volunteers to provide disadvantaged students with the resources they need to succeed in school and in life; and

WHEREAS, from 2024 to 2025, CIS provided services to over 120,000 students in nearly 50 school districts and partnered with 223 schools across Georgia, achieving significant improvements in academic outcomes for case-managed students; and

WHEREAS, 98 percent of the students aided by CIS graduated, 73 percent of students with attendance problems showed improved attendance, and 98 percent of of K-8 students were promoted; and

WHEREAS, 70 percent of CIS students with discipline problems in school improved, reducing their number of suspensions, and 76 percent of students improved academically; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this outstanding organization be appropriately honored.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body honor Communities in Schools for its tremendous service to the youth of Georgia and extend best wishes for continued success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Communities in Schools.
